Globe youth star
Daniela PerezIt was 1992, a young actress who loved Globo very much. At the age of 22, she had already participated in four soap operas, three of them from the powerful Globo. In 1992, the year of her death, she played Yazmin in "Body and Soul (Body and Soul)🇧🇷 Dancing was also one of her great passions.Call for this year "Bride in Brazil", title conquered by Regina Duarte, had already married actor Raúl Gazella.
In the novel of the moment
„body and soulis a telenovela produced by Globo that aired from August 3, 1992 to March 5, 1993 in 185 episodes. It was interpreted by Tarcísio Meira, Cristiana Oliveira and Victor Fasano, among others.
In the plot, Daniella's killer, Guilherme de Pádua, played the character of Bira, with whom Yasmin had an affair. While the crime was solved, authors Leonor Bassères and Gilberto Braga gave the two characters a different ending than planned.
last day of admission
On the afternoon of December 28, Daniella and Guilherme recorded a scene in which the couple ended their love story. Afraid of no longer being part of Globo's success, several witnesses said they had seen the actor crying and asked the actress to replace him and ask his mother not to take him out of the soap opera.
Guilherme's fears were confirmed by him in the trial against him and his wife Paula Thomaz.
Guilherme and Paula's plan
Armed with a sheet and a pillow, Guilherme and Paula left the building in their father's Volkswagen Santana and headed to Tycoon Studios, where Daniella was still recording. Upon arriving at the location, Paula remained in the vehicle, lying in the back seat and covered with the sheet while the actor entered the location to finish filming his scenes.
Around 9 pm, when the recordings ended, Guilherme and Daniella took pictures with some soap opera fans. In the documentary, one of them said that she had noticed Daniella in a strange way that night and that the actor instilled a lot of distrust in her.
Minutes after that exchange with the fans, Daniella went to a gas station. According to witnesses, Guilherme followed her and after blocking her car, ran over her, causing the actress to fall unconscious. (The attack was witnessed by two gas station employees).
After that initial attack, the murderous couple took Daniella to a vacant lot, where she ended up being stabbed 18 times with a weapon never found. The autopsy revealed that the actress had suffered 18 stab wounds: 4 in the neck, 6 in the lung and 8 in the heart (it is not known whether Daniella regained consciousness before or during the stabbing).
Guilherme and Paula's authorship would soon be discovered. It was revealed that the couple had used paint to fake their license plate, which they later confirmed was all pre-planned.
Once located, the actor said that Daniella was stalking him and that he killed the actress in self-defense. He also explained that this way he could show his wife that he was not unfaithful to her. The killer then changed his image of himself and accused Paula of murdering the victim.
On December 31, 1992, the couple was arrested. During the five years leading up to the day of the trial, Guilherme gave different versions of the murder, and although the prosecutor defended his actions, the judge described the crime as "premeditated, violent, perverted and cowardly". The actor was sentenced to 19 years in prison for qualified homicide and Paula to 18.5 years in prison.
Free in less than 7 years
After a move that still causes outrage today, the killers were released from prison in 1999 for good behavior. It should be noted that Daniella's crime was not punished more severely, as there was no sexual abuse or torture as determined by the judge and the laws in Brazil.
The purpose of the documentary
„As we began to delve into the materials, it became clear that we wanted to pursue a few goals: clarifying the false narrative that Daniella was romantically involved with Guilherme, highlighting the important role that Gloria Pérez played in the investigation, and clarifying how media coverage influenced the case insights. Our idea was to follow the details of the court case against the couple who ended up being convicted of the crime and clean up all the "noise" that was created by the defense strategy and the media over the years. It was never our intention to "reopen" the case or challenge the crystal clear verdict in any way. The amount of evidence and witnesses present in the case leaves no doubt as to the verdict. However, when the trial ended, the details of the case appeared to be "old news". Therefore, we want people to finally understand the circumstances of the case through the legal process opened against Guilherme and Paula.' said Guto Barra, the series' screenwriter.
30 years later they are still free
After liberation, the couple lived separately. Paula got married and had two children. The former actor's son is 29 years old and has no contact with his biological father or last name. Guilherme, in turn, also got married and became the pastor of an evangelical church.
Daniella Pérez's killer revealed that before knowing the Bible, he tried to talk to Daniella to apologize for taking her life. 🇧🇷To get an idea, IIn those early years, I spent nights and nights communicating with Daniella. Apologizing, she tried to say something as if she could hear me.Recently, after the HBO Max documentary aired, the former actor said he would incite hatred and apologized. oneGloria Perez and Raúl Gazella.
Daniella's murderer's apology has had negative reactions against him. "Psychopath", wrote Grazi Massafera and Giovanna Lancellotti in the comments of an Instagram page, reacting to the former actor's video. Dancer Brunna Gonçalves also expressed her indignation."Sorry my C*. Unhappy", he wrote on another page. Guilherme shouldn't even be free for moderator Adriane Galisteu."I never had to leave prison".
Raul GazelaAlso pronounced:Please excuse me. I never forgot the day they called me at the police station, you were there and you dragged yourself to me. He hugged me as he cried. And then I saw that I was the worst person in the world.
